WHY CONSULTATIONS & WHAT QUESTIONS WILL I BE ASKED?
Consultations are a crucial component to a successful up-styling experience. Consultations are not something to take lightly, and should be as thorough as can be. It is important to go over every detail. When conducting a consultation make sure your service provider knows the ins and outs of your wedding. Here is a good list of questions to consider:
What is your color scheme?
What is your atheistic for your wedding?
What time of day is your wedding?
What does your dress look like? (Bring in a picture of your dress is you can!) Open back? Strapless? These all are things to consider when choosing an upstyle.
Is the wedding inside or outside? What will the weather be like that day?
Are you going to be dancing the night away? If so maybe a style with all the hair up and out of your face will be the best fit. Otherwise when the dancing begins and the hair falls, usually the bride or bridesmaids will pull it up themselves into a messy bun.
When was a time when you felt most beautiful/comfortable/powerful?
How do you normally style your hair?
When was a time when you strongly disliked your hair?
What are some things you do NOT want to see in your style? (I.e pulled back very tight, forehead exposed, ears showing, not enough volume, too much volume)
What is your hair dream for your wedding?
Bring pictures! What’s your favorite thing about each one?
HOW CAN I MAKE SURE EVERYTHING RUNS SMOOTHLY ON MY BIG DAY?
It’s finally here! Let’s talk about what we need to do the day of. ALL individuals in the bridal party need to arrive 15 minutes prior to the scheduled appointment time. This part is crucial! Salon days are booked to the minute and we want to make sure everyone gets a full experience and for this day to run as smoothly as possible. If any of the individuals in the bridal party are late, they very well may be turned away for service. All individuals should also arrive with CLEAN, and completely dry hair. Yes friends, I said clean hair! Let’s debunk this upstyle myth. I’m sure we are all thinking the same thing; “But I heard clean hair isn’t good for upstyles? Only dirty hair.” I’m here to inform us all that having completely clean hair is actually the best thing you can do to prepare for your upstyle! Greasy or dirty hair fails to hold a style securely and grease can be difficult to cover up based on the individual. No on wants oily hair on their wedding day, or hair that falls flat. Clean hair can be made pliable, and products are what really help us give grit to hair to hold an upstyle best. Hair should not only be clean, but also completely dry! Wet hair does not hold in an upstyle. Your hairdresser will not be able to complete your look with dirty or damp hair. If you or a member of your wedding party is worried about this, feel free to book a blow out with your hairdresser the afternoon or evening before. This way you both can ensure clean, dry hair. Hairdressers also schedule each reservation to the minute. This means they more than likely will not have time to wash and/or blow-dry your hair before they start upstyling. With that being said, let’s set ourselves up for success and have our entire bridal party arrive 15 minutes early all with clean, dry hair!
WHAT IF I ONLY GET MY HAIR “HALF UP, HALF DOWN?” IS THAT STILL CONSIDERED AN UPSTYLE?
Absolutely! The best thing about upstyles (and my personal favorite) is that they are very diverse. Upstyles can consist of having all of the hair pinned up or only some. It can also include braids, twists, pins, curls, sleek, you name it! The sky is the limit when it comes to upstyles.
SHOULD I HAVE MY HAIR DONE AT THE SALON, OR SHOULD I HAVE THEM COME TO ME?
It’s completely up to you! Many hairdressers do both offsite and onsite weddings, so if you have a preference, do whatever is going to make your day easier. Many hairdressers do however have offsite fees. Some brides chose to have their wedding party travel to the salon for photo opportunities! If the salon you are choosing for your styling has a décor and an atmosphere you love, I recommend traveling to them. Then you and your bridal party get a whole additional location for pictures to happen.
ARE MY BRIDESMAIDS WHO ARE NOT SCHEDULING WITH THE SALON ALLOWED TO DO THEIR OWN HAIR AND MAKEUP AT THE SALON?
This is a question we get a lot! And unfortunately the answer is no: by law, no hair or makeup services may be performed by anyone except licensed cosmetologists of whom are employed by Virtue Salon, on the premises. To stay safe we recommend just leaving it to the professionals!
When it comes to weddings and other special events, make-up is a very important part of bringing the day together. With so many different types of make-up out there, it’s hard to know which one is best. Our Make-Up Artists have access to a full range of professional vegan make-up, which includes both traditional, and airbrush make-up.
After trying many different lines the lines we feel best met our needs are Kett Airbrush Foundation and Urban Decay Naked Liquid Foundation. We receive a lot of questions about the differences between liquid and airbrush foundation specifically so here are some answers:
Which type of make-up offers the best coverage for blemishes or scarring? Both airbrush and traditional foundation offer great coverage. One thing foundation (either liquid or airbrush) will NOT do is change the surface texture of your skin. The coverage that foundation offers evens out skin tone and reduces redness.
Which type of make-up is more breathable? Both airbrush and traditional make-up are surprisingly breathable. Airbrush is very lightweight and provides a blanket-like finish on the skin. However, with the vast range of options traditional make-up offers when it comes to coverage, it can also be very breathable on the skin.
Which type of make-up is longer lasting? Both foundations come off with water. So no, you can’t jump into a pool and come out with your full face of makeup completely unscathed. However, our setting sprays and powders work great to keep your make-up where it should be for the whole day.
Which type of make-up is better for my mature/dry/oily skin? Every individual is unique and beautiful in his or her own way and all skin is unique too! Because of this, we strive to work with each person individually to make a decision about the best fit for your skin. Our skilled Make-Up Artists offer a face-to-face consultation to evaluate your skin and preferences to help you make a decision about which cosmetic choices will best fit you and your needs.
Will Airbrush Foundation give me a flawless finish? As makeup artists, our favorite thing to do is show you how beautiful you are! So, while our foundations work great to even out skin tone and create an impeccably smooth finish, it won’t make you look photo-shopped, because you are beautiful the way you are!
We can’t wait to meet with you, Gorgeous!
